Educator, Musician, Songwriter, Architect, Actor, Artist. . .
Harry Guffee has many interests and talents. A native of Franklin, Tennessee
(just outside of Nashville), Harry grew up listening to the "Grand Ole Opry"
where his uncles Sam and Kirk McGee appeared as regular performers for more
than 50 years. Harry has experimented with a variety of musical instruments
including guitar, bass, pedal steel, dobro, banjo(!), and harmonica. He has
toured and recorded with a variety of bands and has appeared in theatrical
productions including "Cotton Patch Gospel" and "Foxfire." Harry has called Texas, Michigan, New York, and California home before settling in New Mexico in 2003.
In 1991, Harry discovered another interest when he added educator to his long
list of experiences, and he now teaches math to sixth graders. In
teaching he has found the opportunity to integrate all of his many talents and
his Songs for Learning CDs, Doggone Math, Do the Math! and Got Math?, are products of this very special combination of skills. By fusing music and
math in a format that makes learning fun, he has discovered a method for
teaching and learning what some consider to be a rather "dry" subject in a most
clever and imaginative way.
Speaking of his work in the classroom, Harry says, " Music has become one of my
favorite ways to help students remember important mathematical concepts" About
his CDs, he adds "I hope you’ll have a great time singing and learning along
with us."
